Where are you from and where do you live now?

I grew up in Santa Rosa, which is an hour north of where I currently live in San Francisco, CA.

What's your background as an artist? Did you attend art school?

I have always loved and created art for as long as I can remember. During high school I would skip math class to have just one more period in the art studio. Back then I was mainly into pen/ ink and watercolor. I did not attend art school, but I am a lifetime student of many things, one being art. Right now I am taking a 2d/3d animation class. Also, my grandpa just gave me a small letterpress, so I am going to test that out soon. I of course dream of being a full-time student again and would love to be able to focus my time completely on art, but for now I am enjoying a satisfying job in the publishing world. I studied literature, so books are near and dear to me as well.

How did your veggie beard series come about?

My boyfriend would claim that he inspired this series because last year he decided to become a vegetarian and he coincidentally has a beard. The veggie beard series is a combination of wanting to move away from computer based art and a raw vegan diet I was toying around with. The diet did not last, but I am glad that it motivated me to step away from my scanner and computer.

Ever think about doing a veggie lady series?

Yes! I haven’t had my fill of these portrait paintings yet and women are way more fun to paint anyways.

What kind of illustration work do you do? Is it similar to your personal work?

I am kind of all over the place. I help friends out with graphic design work and my boyfriend with animation. My goal this year is to focus and spend more time deciding what style/medium I like to work with best.

What inspires you to create?

Creating things is just a big part of who I am. I love to cook, craft, refinish furniture and of course paint/draw. I go through periods of wanting to look at pretty things and soak it all in and then times where I want to make, make, make.

What things can't you live without?

I couldn't live without my amazing friends and family who always encourage me to keep making art.
